I got a dog last week and my cat has been very anxious and scared. The dog runs after the cat when she goes down on the floor. I always give the doggy a row but he still doing the same thing over and over. I am very worry tha they can attack each other. They are in separete rooms and I am introducing them slowly, but I dont know how to stop the dog running after the cat.
Please can you give some solutions. Thank you very much.

I did the same thing of keeping them separate but it only seemed to make the dog more obsessed with the cat, sitting outside her door constantly. Therefore,I put the dog on a leash and let him watch as the cat was let out and moved around the living room. I did this for about an hour a day. If the cat got close, I could pull the dog close to me. This really helped the dog get much less vicious when seeing the cat. This step was done for weeks. The next step was that I put a metal muzzle on the dog, the kind that lets the dog open its mouth really far but not be able to bite (Purchased at Dr. Fosters, cataog and on-line.) While the muzzle was on the dog I let the dog lose with the cat while I monitored them together for about a hour. I did this every day until they seemed bored with each other. It took weeks. (Also, the first few times I did the muzzle thing, I put a leash on the dog thinking the dog might jump on the cat. But he didn't. So then I just used the muzzle.)
Finally, I took off the muzzle and tried them together without the muzzle. The first few times I kept the leash dangling in cause I needed to control the dog quickly. My only problem now is that even though they tolerate each other, the dog growled when the cat went near his food. So I know that is potentially a warning that the dog could attack the cat over food. So I feed the dog when the cat is isolated. I hope this helps. If you do use the muzzle, please don't leave the dog alone with it on. And, I still never leave the dog alone in the house with the cat. I think they need to be separated anytime they are alone.
