On giving up pettiness

Dr. Faustus :

Sometimes I think I should try to stop being so insecure and petty.

Then I see somebody I’m jealous of fail in a completely insignificant way and think, no, it’s too much fun to give up.

The fun part of being petty is also the easy part to give up though. The really hard part about not being petty is to look at the successes of the people you dislike and say, "Good for him/her, the ****head." And mean the "good for [pronoun]" part just as much as the "****head" part. I don't know why that couldn't be the easy part, because then I'd get to keep the snarkiness until the very last, and that's the fun part.

Sigh. Stupid "being a bigger person" goals.
