The sad thing is, the evidence for this is right in front of most people's eyes and they refuse to see it. I spent most of my high school years lamenting that I wasn't getting dates, while all the pushy guys who never stopped hitting on girls were getting them. To this day I still can't fathom why it took me so long to realize that maybe instead of complaining, I should have just changed my tactics.

People are really good at feeling invested in and identified with their belief systems. And if actions based on said belief systems don't yield desired results, they just try harder.
Changing tactics can be pretty revolutionary.
