Twists, Slugs and Roscoes

I’m currently reading Raymond Chandler’s Farewell, My Lovely.

Twists, Slugs, and Roscoes: A Glossary of Hardboiled Slang is proving an invaluable resource.

I tried to read some Chandler a few years ago, both because it was an important part of the American literary culture and because I thought it was the sort of thing I'd enjoy. Just couldn't get into it for some reason. I hope you're getting more pleasure out of it.

I loved it and found it even to survive decades of imitators having retroactively rendered every element of it a cliche.

I'll be taking the next out of the library when I get home.
